Swimming carnival

On Friday the 9th February, Yarraman State School kicked off the sporting year by hosting its annual school swimming carnival. Students across all year levels at the school participated in what was to be a fiercely competitive day both in and out of the pool. Students from both Cook and Flinders houses demonstrated (VERY LOUDLY) passion, pride and a highly competitive atmosphere throughout the day by shouting house war cries, cheering on their fellow team mates in the pool and showing support for those around them. Both Cook house and Flinders house took their spirit to the next level this year and have set up an epic rematch in the remaining sports carnivals for the year.

In the pool, there were many individual battles that were highly competitive with some age champions being decided in the final race of the day. Judges also had to pay close attention to the finishes of races as some winners were decided with less than 0.10 seconds between them. It was great to see the sportsmanship, competitiveness and overall positivity of students throughout the day.

Students in the Prep-Year 1 class were also invited down to the pool to compete in modified races during the day. It was fantastic to see these students having a go at their first race in the pool with the rest of the school cheering them on during their race. Well done to our new swimmers!

The overall winners of the day were Cook house with a massive 902 points overall. Flinders narrowly missed claiming victory with 791 points. Well done to both houses! Our age champions should also be congratulated and will hopefully progress further in the South Burnett district swimming carnival to be held later on this month.

Well done to all who attended the day including parents, staff and students. We can’t wait to see the next sports carnival!!!!
